Universities
From attending university open days and receiving offers to opening the envelope on A-level results day, a lot goes into getting into university.
How does UCAS work?
Application to university through UCAS is done in the autumn term of Year 13. Applications close in the middle of January with certain applications requiring an earlier October deadline. At the College, we provide instruction in UCAS registration and the writing of personal statements in the summer term of Year 12. The College also provides your reference.
When applying, you can select up to five courses at different universities. The College will give you lots of support in selecting courses and institutions that will help you to thrive. We have an excellent track record of assisting students’ applications to some of the most prestigious universities and courses, including the Universities of Oxford and Cambridge.
How can parents help?
Parents can help by talking through university plans with their sons/daughters and visiting potential university destinations with them in the summer term of Year 12 and during summer holidays. To this end, universities organise Open Days to showcase themselves and their courses. We allow a maximum of three Open Days to be taken in term time (across both Year 12 and Year 13) in order to prevent absence affecting progress. Please do note that the majority of universities organise their Open Days to take place during the weekend.
