College Open Evening 28 Sept – Register
Frequently Asked Questions - FAQs
What is the Sixth Form College dress code?
We ask that students dress smartly whilst in college. Students are expected to wear ‘workwear’ such as tailored suits, ties and smart shoes.
How is the day structured?
It is our experience that our structure is supportive, and allows students develop independence without being overwhelmed by having lots of undirected time compared to Year 11.
The College day runs from 8:50–3:15. All students are expected to be in Tutor Time from 8:50-9:10 Monday to Friday. There are 3 lessons: Period 1 9:10-10:50; Period 2 11:10-12:50; Period 3 1:35-3:15. As Sixth Form students, you will be timetabled a number of independent study periods, as well free periods. You are expected to be in College at all times between 8:50-3:15, with the exception of Year 13 students who, at the Head of Year’s discretion, may be permitted to leave at lunchtime if they do not have afternoon lessons.
What facilities are available at the College?
The College has recently undergone a refurbishment and now boasts a fantastic café and social space, Father Dan’s. There is a dedicated study room which students can use in their independent study and free periods, as well as plenty of flexible space for socialising and group work. Our new building has a large auditorium and purpose-built Sixth Form classrooms. Sixth Form students are invited to use the sports facilities including the fitness suite- a fully equipped gym- at the end of the day.
I’m not a Catholic. Can I join the College?
Absolutely! Whilst our Catholic ethos is central to what we do at All Hallows, at Sixth Form we are open and welcoming to students of all or no faith.
As a parent, what can I expect from the College?
Students have one parents’ evening in Year 12 and one in Year 13, but the pastoral and academic staff are happy to speak with parents at any time. Whilst your son/daughter is moving into a period of increased independence, we understand that the relationship between College and home is still a very important one and are keen to proactively work with you in making the transition successful. Student tracking data is sent home in every term of Year 12 and 13.
