Careers ​

The following is intended as a brief outline of the Careers Education Information Advice and Guidance (CEIAG) that is available to students throughout their time at All Hallows. More information is available in the CEIAG policy.

​Year 7
  • Introduced to a variety of careers resources.
  • Opportunity to think about how career choices and personal strengths should be linked.
  • Meeting with people from business/industry.
  • Opportunity to speak with Mr Carney about careers ideas if necessary.

Year 8
  • Guidance on pertinent times to make decisions about future options, as well as being informed about the different training options that become available to me as I move through time in education.
  • Using the careers resources in more detail to explore career areas and subjects of interest.
  • Learning more about personal strengths.
  • Matching interests to suitable careers.
  • Meeting with people from business/industry.
  • Opportunity to speak with Mr Carney about careers ideas if necessary.

Year 9
  • Informed of the different routes and qualifications available post 16.
  • Understanding the importance of developing employability skills.
  • Introduction to Labour Market Information (LMI) to help properly consider future career choices.
  • Working to ensure that GCSE option subjects will keep relevant options open for intentions post 16.
  • Assemblies and parents meetings designed to help in the process of option subject selection.
  • Having the opportunity to attend a careers fair to speak with business people, colleges and universities about future options.
  • Year 9 Options Booklet linking careers to subjects.
  • Continued use of careers resources to further explore career areas and subjects of interest.
  • Re-visiting personal strengths.
  • Meeting with people from business/industry
  • Opportunity to speak with Mr Carney about careers ideas if necessary.

​Year 10
  • Opportunity to visit local businesses to explore how a business is run, the working environment and employment opportunities as part of a Work Experience week.
  • Exploration of a number of different routes (university, apprenticeships, college, Oxbridge, Year in Industry, and less familiar routes like art, performing arts and music).
  • Opportunity to speak with older All Hallows students to find out what routes they took and learn from their experiences.
  • Learning about personal finance.
  • Sampling A level subjects to help with post-16 decisions.
  • Visits from specialist speakers about the different opportunities available post-16.
  • Meeting with people from business/industry.
  • Opportunity to speak with Mr Carney about careers ideas if necessary.

​Year 11
  • Learning where to find job opportunities.
  • Producing a Curriculum Vitae to use when applying for jobs and courses.
  • Learning about good interview technique and appropriate preparation.
  • 1-to-1 meeting with Mrs O’Connor (Careers Guidance Counsellor) to discuss future plans and options
  • Interview experience.
  • Further exploration of Labour Market Information (LMI) to help consider future career choices.
  • Meeting with people from business/industry.
  • Visits from specialist speakers about the different opportunities available post-16.
  • Talking to Mr Carney about higher education including university and A-level choices.
  • Talking to Mr Carney about alternative routes for the future, including apprenticeships, school leaver programmes, college courses and other routes.

​Sixth Form
  • Attending Feature Lectures related to specific industry areas to find out about the world of work.
  • Working closely with tutors to help make informed choices for the ‘next step'.
  • Attending a HE (higher education) convention to speak to university representatives first-hand and find out about the courses they can offer.
  • Guided through how to make a university application on UCAS.
  • Development of a personal statement.
  • Interview practice in preparation for actual interviews.
  • Exploration of alternative routes to university and how to apply.
  • Development of application skills.
  • Student finance information.
  • Visiting local businesses to explore how a business is run, the working environment and employment opportunities as part of a Work Experience week

  • Meeting with people from business/industry.
