Labour Market InformationLMI stands for Labour Market Information. Essentially, LMI can provide a snapshot of whether a particular line of work would be difficult to find (i.e. are there many vacancies in the area at the moment); whether the industry is likely to shrink or expand in the coming years (it might not be wise to train for a job that may not exist in 10 years time); as well a guide to the type of salary one could expect for such work.
Whilst it is important to remember that any LMI produced from averages and estimates cannot be guaranteed, it is a good place to start when considering different career paths. The ‘Careerometer’ below can be used, to explore and compare LMI for various occupations. It provides access to a selection of UK headline data relating to pay, weekly hours of work and future employment prospects for different occupations, as well as a brief description of the occupation. Simply type in the title of a job and it will provide a series of options from which the most relevant role can then be selected. The Skillsometer can help students discover what jobs they might like to do in the future. The ‘Skillsometer’ will present a series of statements, and the user simply selects the emoji which best reflects how they feel about each statement. The responses are used to provide suggestions of jobs linked to areas of strength and/or enjoyment. Each job is presented alongside some headline UK data.
