Literacy at All Hallows

At All Hallows, we believe that a successful and embedded Literacy programme will ensure that; 

• All students will understand the importance of literacy  
• Students will have sufficient literacy skills to prepare them for the wider world
• All students are encouraged to read regularly at a level appropriate to their reading age 
• Support and intervention are prioritised for our weakest readers  
• All students develop a life-long love of reading

Literacy skills include; reading, writing, hand writing, listening, speaking out loud and communication (which can be verbal and non verbal)

In this section you will find a variety of resources that will support students access of literacy across the curriculum.

To support students with developing their literacy skills, the school delivers 3 waves of provision to students depending on their needs.

Wave 1 - Universal : For all students
Wave 2 - Targeted : For identified students 
Wave 3 - Specialist : Delivered by The Ark

Accelerated Reader

Accelerated Reader is an online educational platform designed to monitor and manage students' independent reading practice and comprehension in English.

At All Hallows, all students in Key Stage 3 will sit an Accelerated Reader 'computer adaptive skill-based assessment' 4 times a year to access their reading age. Accelerated Reader offers lots of excellent information about age-appropriate books for your child, as well as a large range of interactive quizzes.
