MEDIA STUDIES GREETS BBC DIRECTOR

DATELINE : October 1 2006

Media Studies A-level students  were delighted to have a distinguished visitor from the BBC. Director/producer Neil Baldock spent several hours at the college, talking to the A-level students about careers in the media and his own experiences. His recent work has included ‘Live8’, ‘Children in Need’ and coverage of the last General Election. At present he is working on the  Lord mayor’s Show which will be screened in November. Previously, he worked for Southern Counties and other local radio stations.

Neil has generously offered to act as a media mentor to a selected  student, giving advice and support as they try to break in to this highly competitive industry. Living near the school, Neil came up with the idea in conversation with  Mr.  Rees, and thus the scheme was born.

Joe Martin, from Farnham, was the first All Hallows Sixth Former to benefit from the mentorship, and after succeeding in his A-levels this summer, he is now studying Media at Bournemouth University

Neil said:

‘This has been very important to me. I wanted to give something back, after all that I have managed to achieve in my career. Joe has really moved on while I have been mentoring him and I am delighted he is now going to a top media course. I will continue to give him support whenever he needs it.’
