Presentation Evening 2009

Dateline: Tuesday December 15th 2009

Our annual Presentation Evening took place on Monday December 14th at the Farnham Maltings. Our Guest of Honour was Professor Elaine Thomas, Vice Chancellor of the University of the Creative Arts, which has a major campus in Farnham. Professor Thomas gave out examination certificates to students who sat their GCSE and GCE examinations last summer. She also presented many awards to students from all years of the school in recognition of special achievement.

Professor Thomas spoke about her life spent in education and about her own passion for being creative. She urged her audience to strive for three goals: hard work, facing up to difficulties and obstacles, and knowing when to take and when to give back. She illustrated this with moving examples drawn from students and colleagues she had worked with. She was thanked for her words of wisdom in a well presented speech by Senior Student Adam Curry, and fellow Senior Student Susan Kayasth presented her with a bouquet of flowers. Professor Thomas was joined on the stage by the Pro-Vice Chancellor Mr Paul Coyle, and we were also honoured by the presence of the Mayor of Waverley, Cllr Pat Frost (accompanied by Cllr Bob Frost), and also by the Mayor of Farnham, Cllr Lucinda Fleming. Earlier, our Chair of Governors Tim Bradley had praised all students and teachers for the superb examination results in 2009, by far the best ever achieved. Mrs Lutzeier spoke about Advent and the importance of preparing well for the joyful celebration of Christmas. She said that being at school is a bit like Advent, a time of preparation which leads to a happy outcome when school days come to a successful ending. The whole evening went very smoothly under the skilful co-ordination of Master of Ceremonies, Mr Laing.
