We were pleased to welcome Barrister Mr Stephen Bentley LLB (Hons) of Charter Chambers who spoke to Year 10 and 6th form students recently. Mr Bentley spoke to the Year 10s in an extended Assembly, and the subject matter was directly relevant to the Law component of their Citizenship course. Later he met a smaller group of students who are interested in pursuing Law as a career. Mr Bentley left them under no illusions about the hard work required to progress in the legal profession, and also pointed out that although some legal work does attract very high financial rewards, that is not true across the board. The students found the talk extremely useful. Hannah said , 'I realised how determined you have to be. I will try getting work experience in a legal firm to help me make the right decisions.' Adam said, 'The talk was really beneficial. It was really interesting as he gave us a very good insight into the work that he does.' Zoe added, 'The talk was most inspiring. I now know a lot more about the life of a barrister and the pains of getting there in the first place! I found the tales of the courtroom most enjoyable too!' |
