NewsPRESENTATION EVENING 2009 Dateline: Tuesday December 15th 2009 GCSE RESULTS ARE BEST EVER Dateline: Friday August 28th 2009 A-LEVELS RESULTS ARE SUPERB Dateline: August 20th 2009 ADVICE CONCERNING SYMPTOMS OF SWINE FLUDateline: July 16th 2009Swine flu is a virus that is particularly affecting children and young adults. The main symptoms are high temperature, headache, sore throat and may include aching limbs, breathing difficulties and other typical flu symptoms. Symptoms to look out forIf.... Your temperature goes above 38C (100.4F) and If...you have 2 or more of the following symptoms Cough You need to speak with your GP urgently. If your surgery is closed you should follow their instructions for contacting the emergency doctor. You must tell the GP that you are in an area of higher swine flu risk and that you may have been in contact with someone known to have, or suspected of having swine flu. If the person who is ill, or any member of the household, belongs to the following 'at risk' groups, this must be made clear to the GP
Keep your child at home UNTIL SYMPTOMS HAVE DISAPPEARED COMPLETELY or at least 7 days from onset of symptoms. What can schools and parents do to slow the spread? Anyone who has a fever and flu-like symptoms should stay at home. They should not go to school or work, and should not attend health settings such as GP surgeries or hospital A&E departments. Everyone can play their part by practising good hygiene: • Washing hands frequently with soap and water to reduce the spread of virus from your hands to face or to other people. • Cleaning hard surfaces (e.g. door handles) frequently using a normal cleaning product. • Covering your nose and mouth when coughing or sneezing, using a tissue when possible. • Disposing of dirty tissues promptly and carefully. • Making sure children follow this advice.
