All Hallows is a Voluntary Aided Catholic School in the Trusteeship of the Roman
Catholic Diocese of Portsmouth. It is the Governors’ policy that the distinctive Catholic
nature of the school should be maintained. With this in mind the governors seek to ensure
that all parents who wish their children to attend All Hallows Catholic School are actively
committed to fully supporting the Catholic ethos of the school.
All Hallows will admit 240 children mainly aged 11+ to Year 7 in the school year 2009-2010.
Pupils will be admitted on a non-selective basis and if there are more applications for entry to the school than places available the governors will apply the criteria in the order in which they are set out below i.e. applications for children in Category 1) will receive first priority followed by those children in Category 2) and so on.
The categories of children referred to in the previous paragraph are as follows:
1) Looked –after baptised Catholic* children in the care of the Local Authority.
2) Baptised Catholic* children whose application is accompanied either by a Baptismal Certificate or a signature from their Parish Priest, to confirm that they are baptised.
3) Other looked-after children in the care of the Local Authority.
4) Siblings of children already in attendance at All Hallows School at the time of admission.
5) Children under instruction in the Catholic faith (Catechumens).
6) Children of other faith communities whose application is supported by their Minister of Religion.
7) Other children whose parents require a Christian education for their children and who fully support the Catholic ethos of the school.
8) All other children
In addition to the Local Authority Common Application Form parents/carers are invited to complete a separate All Hallows Catholic School Supplementary Information Form. The additional information on this form assists governors in placing applications in the correct oversubscription category. If no supplementary information form is submitted governors can only rank the application on the basis of the information contained in the common application form.
All Supplementary Information Forms of Catholic children must be supported either by a Baptismal Certificate or by a signature from their Parish Priest.
The signature of the Minister of Religion, on headed paper, from your place of worship is required for Non-Catholic applicants.
The Code of Practice advises that children with a statement of special educational needs which names the school will be admitted and will count in the admission number.
* A Catholic is a baptised member of a church in communion with the See of Rome
The Governing Body will use geographical distance measured from home, by road, in the event that a final decision needs to be made in any category. (Nearest will have priority).
In the event of oversubscription a waiting list will operate and children will be ranked according to the categories stated in this policy.
